Meet Our Pastor

Nancy and David Hutchinson

Pastor David Hutchinson

I was born in Minneapolis, MN, and grew up in Iowa. My wife Nancy was born just outside of Boston, but all of her family now live in the Portland area. So we now consider Portland to be our home. We love skiing on Mt. Hood, and kayaking. I play a little jazz saxophone, and am glad many of you have a love of music. Our cats, George and Zora probably think of us as their servants, but we enjoy their mysterious ways.

I graduated from St. Olaf College, Union Theological Seminary in New York City, and later received my Doctor of Ministry from George Fox University in 2010. Recently I have also been teaching as an adjunct instructor at the University of Portland.

  • PASTOR ELECTED COMMISSIONER TO GENERAL ASSEMBLY!
David Hutchinson is one of three teaching elders (ministers) elected from a field of six
to serve as commissioner to the General Assembly this summer. There are also three ruling
elders, and a youth delegate. These seven people represent our Presbytery at the denomination's
biennial (every two years) national gathering. In June of 2016 approximately 3000 people from
across the nation and the world will gather, as they do in various locations every two years.
This year the meeting is in Portland, and so there are opportunities for lots of you to attend.
All are welcome though only delegates can vote. Plymouth has agreed to host 10 delegates in
worship during the assembly. Pastor David is also the co-chair of the opening worship planning
team, which is on Saturday, June 18. Watch for more information in the national website:
    https://www.pcusa.org/events/24275/222nd-general-assembly-2016/

Commissioners serve within their Presbytery in that capacity for the two years following the assembly, interpreting and educating.
